Episode 46 - Kennedy Youngren, MS, RDN LD & The Importance Of Nutrition In Mental Health
On this episode I got to chat with Kennedy Youngren, MS, RDN LD. Kennedy grew up in a rural setting with roots deep in the dairy industry. In 2016 she met her sweetheart, Dylan, at a country music festival where they talked until he had to go do chores at 5 am. When she realized he was a dairy farmer, it was love. They just got married this summer and she likes to say that she accidentally ended up on her husbands 5th generation dairy farm. They are excited to make future plans for their farm and life together!
Kennedy is passionate about her role as a dietician and had such a lovely way of defining the difference between a dietician and a nutritionist. She went to school for a long time to become a dietician and is passionate about educating people on eating. Dieticians help people with what to eat and also studied how to sustain life, treat disease, and help conditions through nutrition. She is also passionate about medical nutrition therapy (MNT), which is where the dieticians learn about disease states for about 1 year of their degree so they can learn about the disease state, how to treat it and how to prevent it.
Her true passion lies in adolescent eating disorders, because of her background and history with eating disorders. Now, Kennedy works in an interdisciplinary setting with physicians, psychiatrists, and various therapists helping 12-17 year olds with their relationship with food.
On this episode, Kennedy talks about the importance of food, food waste, GMO/organic vs. eating, malnourishment and so much more.
If you eat, this episode is for you!
