The Rural Mindset Podcast™ Episode 32 - How to Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
We’ve all done it. We have all compared ourselves to other people - where they’re at, how big their farms are, what they are doing, whether we seem like we are doing that well, if we are doing better, how we are dressed, what kind of day we are having, how lucky someone else is, so on and so forth.
We do it. Comparison started historically as a way for us to stay alive. Our ancestors had to compare themselves to others in order to stay alive - they had to be faster, smarter, and better than other neanderthals to stay alive. We don’t, but our brains are still wired that way even though so much of our lives have evolved since then.

If you find yourself comparing yourself to others, then you might be missing out on a lot of good times and joy in your life. Here are some ways to stop comparing yourself to others:
- Know what sets you off
- Practice gratitude
- Remind yourself that often we only see and hear of people's highlight reels
- Focus on you - your actions, water your own grass, and your journey
- Learn to celebrate others rather than seeing their success as your failure - there’s room for us all.
- Compete with yesterday you - try to be 1% better than you were yesterday.
- Set boundaries - time block, social media, what you say to others, what makes you feel bad
