The Rural Mindset Podcast™ Episode 34 - Befriending Your Anxiety

 

I think we have talked a lot about what anxiety looks like in others and what we can do, but there are a lot of subtle signs of anxiety that we often overlook when they happen to ourselves, so here are some things do look for and what you can do about it:


  • Stomach aches
  • Chewing nails 
  • Not sleeping 
  • Perfectionism
  • Indecisiveness 
  • Avoidance 
  • Nausea 
  • Headaches

What you can do if you notice you have some of these more subtle signs of anxiety: 

  • Name three things you see, feel, and hear 
  • Go for a walk 
  • Ground yourself - do deep breathing, walk barefoot, etc
  • Notice what it is that makes you feel anxious
  • Ask yourself what it is that you care about? Be interested in what your body is telling you in these moments 
  • Practice box breathing - breathe for 4, hold for 4, breathe out for 4, hold for 4
  • Stay physically active 
  • Practice sleep hygiene
