The Rural Mindset Podcast™ Episode 22 - That Fit Agvocate Andrea Flemming
On this episode of The Rural Mindset Podcast™ I had the pleasure of interviewing Andrea Flemming, known online as That Fit Agvocate. Andrea is a 25 year old on her multi-generational family cattle operation where they run a cow/calf operation, feedlot, and grain, and Andrea utilizes her knowledge to be an advocate for agriculture and the cattle business. Andrea talks about how mental health has its ebbs and flows, and how our mental health journeys aren't linear.
Andrea opens up about her mental health story and how her life on the farm was unique compared to many of her peers. She was bullied in middle school for loving agriculture and was scared to open up to getting help at that time. Instead of going to counselling, Andrea worked with her weanling and figured out coping strategies that worked for her through animals and their family farm. She talks about various phases of life and how challenging it can be to experience bullying, lose loved ones, not get into a post-secondary program, and learn to navigate change.
When Andrea is finding life to be challenging she uses some wonderful proactive mental health tools to help her:
- Unfollowing individuals on social media who don't help her self-image
- Unplugging from social media
Andrea gives a lot of good information through her story on this episode.
